After completing a tour in Viet Nam as a Army gunship helicopter pilot, where he traded the airforce personnel helicopter rides for hard to get items his unit needed [& the Air Force had], Ron thought he'd be safer entering the business world. He came to find out that business had it's risks too. Little did he know that his "trading" skills would come in handy running the retail business he started in 1974.

He was 'formally' introduced to the world of organized trade by a local printer that he was trading goods for services with.

Ron enjoyed bartering so much and quickly realized he was selling his products & services to a customer base that he would have never reached otherwise . He then used the trade credits he earned from those sales to offset his cash expenses and wondered why every business wasn't a member of a barter exchange.

In 1980 Ron decided to buy a B.E.I. franchise [Barter Exchange Inc.] for the Killeen,TX market. After the 1st full year of bringing in new clients, Ron earned the distinction of having the highest trade volume per client in the BEI system.

Ron bought the Houston & San Antonio BEI offices and enjoyed his "Trading" a lot more than his retail business. He sold his Houston office and concentrated on building the San Antonio office. BEI was later bought out by ITEX and both Killeen & San Antonio office became one ITEX office.

The CTV [Combined Trade Volume] grew each year to in excess of $2 Million dollars.

The best "Trade" Ron ever made was using $50,000td's{his & $50,000 cash[his partner's] to purchase 20 arces in Punta Gorda, Fl. with a partner. They sold the property 2 years later for $440,000 cash.

Ron concentrates on larger 'deals' or Real Estate purchases but loves sharing the concept of Barter with "Mom & Pop" businesses as well.
